QUICK INFORMATION :

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a country located in central Africa. It is the second largest country in Africa  It borders the Central African Republic and South Sudan to the north, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi in the East, Zambia and Angola to the South

The Congo Rainforest, the second largest rain forest in the world after the Amazon, this massive expanse of lush jungle covers most of the vast, low-lying central basin of the river, which slopes toward the Atlantic Ocean in the west. This area is surrounded by plateaus merging into savannas in the south and southwest, by mountainous terraces in the west, and dense grasslands

WILDLIFE HIGHLIGHTS :
  • The Congo is inhabited by three distinct great ape species  — the Common Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes), the bonobo (Pan paniscus) and the gorilla. It is the only country in the world in which bonobos are found in the wild. The chimpanzee and bonobo are the closest living evolutionary relatives to humans.

  • There are approximately 10, 000 species of tropical plants in the Congo Basin and 30 percent are unique to the region. Endangered wildlife, including forest elephants, chimpanzees, bonobos, and lowland and mountain gorillas inhabit the lush forests. 400 other species of mammals, 1,000 species of birds and 700 species of fish can also be found here.
BEST TIME TO VISIT :

Apart from high-altitude areas, most of the country is hot and humid year-round, with daytime temperatures lingering around 30°C. Rainfall is scant near the coast, but increases significantly as you move inland.

The dry season (and the best time to visit) in the north is from December and February while in the south it runs between April and October
