Rio NegroDAY 01 : MANAUS TO RIO NEGRO (AMAZON)

The tour starts from Manaus. You will meet our guide at 7:00 AM. This morning we will board the vessel, the Motor Yacht Tucano and depart upstream on the Rio Negro. Through the morning we will cruise through the world’s largest river island system, the Anavilhanas Archipelago. From the observation deck we can scan the magnificent tangle of vegetation.

By mid-afternoon, the vessel goes beyond the frontier of settlement and enters the area of wilderness. The shores are covered by dense rainforest. The list of animals that can be spotted is unpredictable, but we have a good chance of observing Pink River Dolphins and a large collection of exotic birds. We will see magnificent forest vistas and the spectacular trees. In the late afternoon we get onto launches and hunt for wildlife. We can also opt for a swim in water that is considered, the world’s cleanest and most refreshing.

(Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 02 : RIO NEGRO (AMAZON)

Early this morning, we will explore the rainforest in our launches. We may perhaps hear and see Howler Monkeys along with a morning serenade of Toucans. After breakfast we will go for a walk in the forest where we will get a good start on our understanding the flora and fauna of the tall rainforest region.

Around midday we return for lunch and the voyage starts again, perhaps stopping at a place to swim. In the late afternoon we will again explore the forest in our launches and may chance upon the sunset chorus of birds and frogs.

(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 03 : RIO NEGRO (AMAZON)

Today morning on an early exploration of the waking forest. We will keep our eyes open for monkeys, who are oft spotted. We return for breakfast followed by either a walk in the forest or an excursion in the launches.

Motor Yacht Tucano will travel through the day and we stop in the afternoon for an excursion. Onboard Overnight.

(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Rio JauaperiDAY 04 : RIO NEGRO (AMAZON) - RIO JAUAPERI

The Tucano will navigate along the heavily forested shore, scouting for wildlife. We may stop at a settler’s home; the houses are unique and are carved out in the forest.

In the early afternoon we close in on an extraordinary river called the Rio Jauaperi. We will scout along the shoreline for some of the extraordinary creatures, found only in this unique habitat. Weather permitting, we will embark on a night excursion to observe the nocturnal creatures.

(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 05 : RIO NEGRO (AMAZON)

Today we depart the Rio Jauaperi and head downstream on the Rio Negro exploring a new collection of rainforest habitats. In the daytime we will continue to scout for wildlife in our launches and walk in the forest.

At night we will continue looking out for nocturnal wildlife.

(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 06 : NOVO AIRÃO

After a walk in the forest we cross to the west bank of the Rio Negro, exploring the region, as we go. We will stop at the, Novo Airão, the famous boat building village. As we walk through the streets of the village, we are bound to marvel at how the 19th Century way of living thrives in this remote corner of the globe.

Tonight the Tucano sails downstream and by morning, we arrive near the confluence with the Amazon River. As the yacht glides through the starry darkness, you can sip on “Caipirinha”, national drink of Brazil, and perhaps try a Samba on the top deck.

(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 07 : LAGO JANAUARI ECOLOGICAL PARK TO MANAUS

JanauriToday, we will explore Lago Janauari Ecological Park. Here, the thick brown water of the Amazon flows swiftly through the forest. This region is considered to be a good wildlife observation spot. Around midday the vessel will travel to the “Encontra das Aguas”, a several mile long line where two of the world’s largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro, join in a turbulent maelstrom. Here the dark water of the Negro runs beside the opaque brown water of the Amazon. In the afternoon we scout one of the lesser known streams in the area to try to see some more of the Amazon’s beautiful wild creatures.

Tonight, we will go on a final nocturnal excursion looking for nocturnal life.

(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 08 : MANAUS

Our expedition through the rainforest ends today. After breakfast, we disembark from the Motor Yacht Tucano. The tour ends at 08:00 AM. It is also possible to prearrange the disembarking to the evening prior to the last day of the tour, if you have an early morning flight to catch.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

July to February is a good period to visit the Amazon as it has less rain during this time of the year. However, some visitors prefer the rainy season because the region is cooler then. March to June is the time when Amazon is the coolest but travelers throng the region even in the transitional period as Amazonian wildlife can be viewed all year round.

For visitors heading to Pantanal, April to June and October to November are good periods as the other months see a lot of rain that floods this area. September and October are good months to head over to Iguassu Falls. The beaches of Bahia, Salvador and Fortaleza have pleasant temperatures all year round, though the rainy season is best avoided.
For the party and festival crowd, head to Rio between December and March.
